Replacing cabin air filter (pollen filter), VW Polo 6C 2015

The cabin air filter is above the passenger footwell - it is secured by a plastic cover held on with two (2) plastic clips, part number 600 815 391. Push both of them towards the centre to remove the cover, pull them back out to secure it. Beware that one needs to be in exactly the right place by millimetres, or else it will fall off! (When I first got this car the second clip had been left in the storage area of the armrest as it had indeed fallen off and whoever prepped the car hadn’t bothered to replace it correctly…) cabin air filter cover securing clip cabin air filter cover with one clip in place This is the old filter, removed halfway cabin air filter halfway removed from housing It is part number 6R0 820 867 old cabin air filter Here is the new one, it is from Bosch (as that was what was easily in stock here, other brands exist. You can get one with activated “microparticles”, it is supposed to filter out more nasty stuff from the outside air. new Bosch filter The filter is directional - make sure the airflow arrows point in the right direction (towards the centre console of your car). I live in the UK, where we drive on the left and have the steering wheel on the right, so the filter is in the left hand side of the car and its inserted with the writing facing away from you (so you can’t see the writing from the front when the filter is inserted in the housing). direction arrows on filter These are the old and new filters (it is best to replace it every year) old and new filters Also, be careful to remove all leaves and other stuff from the filter housing. Otherwise you get a very annoying whistling noise inside the car when the fan switch is at position 2 - I had this for a while even after replacing the filter, and nearly thought there was a worse defect in the airco such as a coolant gas leak! But I removed and reseated the filter (and some more leaves fell out I had missed first time round), and then everything was quiet again….
