2019-11-30 Morning Reflection

2019-11-30

This morning's thoughts are on how do we let go of past abuses? We all carry some baggage that was given to us from parents, spouses, some authority figure, etc. Personally, in addition to the abuses from people I was abused by religon.

The first part of John 10:10 says

'The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:...'

Being the kind of guy that I am I generally try to see that most people are acting in good faith. People generally do and say things without thinking. We can see what someone else did to us but we are generally blind to what we may have done to other people.

Some events of the past can rob us of our joy. They shape the way we think about life and the way we view ourselves. They steal the life that could have been.

Romans 8:28 says that:

'And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. '

If we are one of God's children then everything that has happened in our life has happened according to his plans and purposes. As one of God's children we can rest assured that everything that has happened to us is happening for his purposes.

And as to one of his purposes we return to the rest of John 10:10 which concludes with

'... I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. '

Our life and our abundant life comes from Jesus.

The application here is a struggle for me. Is our life abundant? Are the struggles in our lives leading to abundant life? Are they the signs of abundant life? How do we learn to rest in the fact that all things are at work and we just need to rest in the Lord?
